All-New Nissan Serena e-POWER: Singapore's First Nissan e-POWER Model
25 SEPTEMBER 2019
Award-winning 100% electric motor-driven system technology arrives in Singapore.
Singapore, 25 September 2019 - Nissan and Tan Chong Motor Sales today announced the launch of the all-new Nissan Serena e-POWER, Japan’s best-selling Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV), in Singapore.
The new 7-seater Nissan Serena e-POWER debuts Nissan’s first e-POWER electrified powertrain in Singapore. Coupled with smart technologies and family-friendly features, the Nissan Serena e-POWER delivers an award-winning experience with a 100% electric drive that allows driver and passengers to better enjoy every ride.
Following the new Nissan LEAF, this is the second electrified vehicle in Nissan’s line-up to be launched locally, which will help meet Nissan’s commitment to fully electrify its passenger car line-up in Singapore by 2022.
Revolutionary e-POWER technology
e-POWER is a Nissan proprietary technology that offers the driving performance and benefits of an EV, yet eliminates the need for plug-in charging. It combines a 100% electric motor drive with a petrol engine that charges the battery, giving customers instant, smooth acceleration and greater fuel efficiency.
The e-POWER system comprises the battery and the electrified powertrain, which is integrated with a petrol engine, power generator, inverter and motor. This differs from conventional hybrid systems, where the wheels are driven by an electric motor and a petrol engine.
Nissan Serena e-POWER's electric motor delivers 100kW and 320Nm of instantaneous torque. Used solely to charge the battery, the 1.2-litre petrol engine runs at a constant, optimal speed to deliver a great fuel efficiency rating of 17.5km/L.
Nissan’s e-POWER electrified powertrain, available in the Nissan Serena e-POWER, was named Technology of the Year for 2019 by the Automotive Researchers' and Journalists' Conference of Japan (RJC).
"The all-new Serena e-POWER offers customers the benefits of an EV such as instantaneous torque delivery, smooth acceleration and a quiet drive, without them having range anxiety and worrying about plug-in charging. It will provide all on board an enjoyable experience in a very effortless manner," said Mr Glenn Tan, Deputy Chairman and Managing Director, Tan Chong International Limited – exclusive distributor of Nissan passenger and light commercial vehicles in Singapore through its fully owned subsidiary, Tan Chong Motor Sales.
Ultimate driving enjoyment
Nissan Serena e-POWER is equipped with three driving modes – Smart, ECO and Normal. The e-POWER’s S (Smart) or ECO mode offers the convenience of acceleration and deceleration by only using Nissan’s innovative One-Pedal Drive technology.
One-Pedal allows the driver to start, accelerate, decelerate and stop using only the accelerator pedal. Lift off the accelerator pedal and One-Pedal mimics stepping on the brake pedal, allowing the vehicle to slow down and even come to a complete stop. In stop-and-go city traffic, One-Pedal greatly reduces the need to shift from one pedal to the other, making driving simpler and more engaging.
The advanced regenerative braking of the One-Pedal Drive technology also harnesses a high amount of energy back to recharge the battery and increase fuel efficiency. One-Pedal furthermore reduces wear and tear on the brake pads as brake pedal application decreases by nearly 70%.
The 100% electric-driven Nissan Serena e-POWER also comes equipped with unique Quiet and Charge modes – the former enables the vehicle to travel quietly when required by temporarily stopping the petrol engine from charging the battery, while the latter runs the engine to charge the battery.
Sporty look and smart versatility
The front face of the Nissan Serena e-POWER exudes a sporty and strong demeanour, with the V-motion theme starting lower on the bumper, resulting in a larger grille and a unique chrome pattern. A blue accent symbolising the advanced nature of e-POWER appears throughout the MPV, including the grille, electronic shift knob, large console tray and dashboard display. Dedicated 16-inch alloy wheels, an optional two-tone external colour scheme and rear roof spoiler also provide the all-new MPV a distinctively sporty outlook.
The smart MPV comes equipped with innovative family-friendly features such as the dual tailgate opening, hands-free auto sliding doors and over nine flexible seating arrangements for varying needs.
Comprehensive approach to safety
Nissan Serena e-POWER is assigned a JNCAP five-star safety rating, the highest possible from Japan New Car Assessment Programme (JNCAP). Besides being equipped with advanced Nissan Intelligent Mobility technologies such as Intelligent Around View Monitor and Intelligent Driver Alertness, its top-notch safety features also include six SRS airbags, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and Vehicle Sound for Pedestrian (VSP) systems.
